Eating food is both a simple, nourishing act and a profoundly political one.

At the Co-op we care deeply about providing our community with whole and healthy foods… and we know that we also have a responsibility to use our voice to protect the land and people that grow and make this good food for us.

Our mission empowers us to advocate for a healthier, more sustainable community and planet. It is important to be acting both locally and globally toward fulfilling this mission.

On a local level, we engage, support and promoteĀ  incredible regional initiatives like:

Kootenay Organic Growers Society (KOGS)

Kootenay Local Agriculture Society (KLAS)

Seniors Economic Environment Development Society (SEEDS)

Slocan Valley Permaculture Co-operative – FarmFoodFork initiative

Young Agrarians- Kootenay Chapter

Upper Columbia Co-operative Council

We also support and promote provincial and federal organisations like:

Canadian Biotechnology Action Network

BC Food Systems Network

BC Co-operative Association

Food Secure Canada

Organic Agriculture Protection Fund

And we share work with our friends to the south on food issues with national groups like:

Non-GMO Project

Provender Alliance

The Cornucopia Institute

Here are some of the issues we champion day in, day out:

  • Regulation of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
  • Food Security
  • Local Agriculture
  • Co-operation in all it’s glory
  • Community Economic Development
