Meadowbrook has been in operation for almost 20 years. It’s a testament to their hard work, perseverance and great quality products! Kevin and Laura Stavast share a passion for healthy and sustainable food, and help to make local food accessible year round by growing yummy greens and the locally infamous Kootenay Sprouts.

True Local farm family.
Where are you located?
What do you grow?
We grow a variety of sprouts and salad greens.
How would you describe your farm operation?
We are a family farm in the truest sense – the farm is on my childhood property and we work alongside our parents and our children.
How long have you been in business?
What motivated you to start?
We purchased the farm from my parents allowing them to (semi) retire and giving us the opportunity to return to our hometown to raise our family.
Does a farmer ever really retire…?
What are some of your greatest joys?
Every day we are grateful to be able to enjoy the Kootenay lifestyle and all it has to offer with our family.
What are some of your greatest challenges?
With perishable products like sprouts, it’s always difficult to balance supply and demand.
What is your vision for your company?
We have always aimed to make good food that is accessible & affordable for everyone and we would like to continue to do so.
Why is local food important to you?
It’s important on so many levels from product quality to environmental and economic considerations. For us, it’s really important to teach the next generation to work with their hands and be more self-sufficient.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
THANK YOU! The support of the Kootenay Co-op, Co-op members, and their dedication to True Local and organic products have made it possible for us to run a viable year-round farm. Meadowbrook has been in operation for almost 20 years and looks forward to many more, thanks to your support.
