Who is the roaster at No6 Coffee Co.?
Denis Leblanc is the wearer of many hats at No6 Coffee: roaster, owner-operator, product and brand developer, bean sourcer, and passionate coffee drinker.
Where are you located?
What do you make?
I’m an artisan coffee roaster, sourcing the highest quality coffees from family-run farms and independent co-ops.
How would you describe your company?
No6 Coffee Co. is a small batch roasting company that offers ethically sourced, specialty grade, traceable coffees. Our deeper goal is to support and promote ethically established, independent family run farms and coffee cooperatives with empowered direct trade relationships, transparency and traceability, as well as education for everyday consumers.
Our raw green coffee beans come from the finest importers who meticulously source premium products and producers, while fostering empowering and healthy partnerships with like-minded farmers and cooperatives. Most of our coffee offerings are traceable through the supply chain, back to the very farm/farmers who produced them. We believe this transparency shows our commitment to ethics, environment and empowerment within the coffee culture.
How long have you been in business?
Since January 1st, 2016.
What motivated you to start?
I started “home roasting” and discovered the succulent flavours of high quality coffees when carefully roasting them to their potential.
What are some of your greatest joys?
Discovering new coffees, or just watching people’s reactions when tasting outstanding coffees for the first time.
What is your vision for your company?
I’d like to open a boutique coffee roastery/coffee store with a tasting/cupping table. I want to help people find that perfect cup of coffee by teaching about origin characteristics and brewing techniques that suit their lifestyles.
Why is local food and/or local purchasing important to you?
It encourages, inspires and instils a sense of pride in a community.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
Spend more time with your coffee. Learn about the characteristics of each origin instead of shopping by roast color. Coffee is a lot more than just a drink that spits you out of bed in the morning, or something that you frantically spill as you rush off to work. Once you discover the hidden flavour profiles of high quality coffees you will go to bed dreaming about your morning cup. You will sit and sip, undisturbed.
Thank you for your interest and for your support of my coffee company!
