Stoke Cold Pressed Juice!
Jill from Stoke Cold Pressed Juice comes by her passion for fresh organic produce honestly! Her family has run a produce stand at the Kimberley Centex for the past three decades. This multi-generational family business is famous for its selection of high quality fresh produce, its supportive relationship with local producers, and its connection to the community. Jill and her partner Alistair have maintained these values as pillars of their new venture, Stoke Cold Pressed Juice.
With a creative and entrepreneurial nature, Jill began exploring ways to curb waste in the produce industry, bring the best food possible to her community, and fuel the fire of the Kootenay’s fun outdoor lifestyle. Jill began juicing, and Stoke Cold Pressed Juice was born!
Stoke is available in many exquisite flavours and it is so delicious that we struggle to keep this juice on our shelves! Come try them all and find your favourite fuel for your fire!

Where are you located?
How would you describe your company?
We are a small cold-pressed juicery based in Kimberley B.C. and we supply locations around the Kootenays. We press the freshest produce we can find, using local if it’s available and only organic produce. Our mission to supply the people of the Kootenays with an incredible product that is always fresh and jam packed with nutrition.
How long have you been in business?
We have been cold-pressing for 2 years but it took some time to get our recipes to where they are now. It is always a work in progress, especially when you are using produce that is never consistent. That is part of the fun though!
Before starting Stoke Cold Pressed Juice I worked alongside my family in our local produce market, which my parents have run in Kimberley for the last three decades. My parents instilled in me an early appreciation for local produce purchased directly from farmers and a passion for personal connections with the people who grow our food and the community who consumes it.
What motivated you to make the leap to juicing?
Growing up in the produce business it always made me uneasy that there is so much waste. It even seemed ridiculous to compost ripe produce that couldn’t be consumed. I was brainstorming ways to avoid waste and have always had a passion for juicing. After I started juicing and experimenting with all the amazing combinations that fruit and veggies can make, I was hooked. We have 24 different juice flavours and create new blends seasonally… that’s my favourite part!
Why did you choose cold-pressing for your juicing process?
Stoke was the result of a passion for wellness and experimentation – using the beautiful organic produce on hand to play around with new recipes and ideas. Eventually, the incredible health benefits and principles of cold-pressed juicing seemed like a natural evolution.
“Cold-pressed” means that the juice is extracted from the produce using hydraulic pressure, which gently presses the fruits and vegetables. This is in stark contrast to most commercial juicing which is processed with a high-speed centrifugal juicer; a rough extraction method that immediately damages a lot of the nutrients in the juice.
Because cold pressed juicing is so slow, there is very little heat and oxidation created by the process – and those are two factors that would quickly kill off nutrients. This process keeps the maximum amount of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes intact. They are all still alive in the bottle when you purchase it, and you can trust that your juice is raw, unpasteurized, and always organic.
Cold-pressed juice is a great way to get a big dose of healthy, organic fruits and vegetables. Each bottle packs a punch of 2 to 4 pounds of produce! Incorporating cold-pressed juice into your diet and lifestyle can have wonderful health benefits.
What are some of your greatest joys?
Creating a product that not only tastes good but makes you feel great is like a dream come true for us. It is awesome to see people as excited as we are about new blends and getting the chance to chat about juice with people who have juiced for decades is something we really enjoy!
One of the most gratifying feelings is hearing some of the remarkable health stories from our customers. Stories about how they feel better, how the juice helped them with a sickness, or just improves their daily lives. Knowing we are producing something that people really enjoy and that is a truly a healthy product is why we go the extra miles and stick with only organic.
What are some of your greatest challenges?
We have all come home from the grocery store with fruit to find that some are juicy and perfect and others aren’t quite ripe. We deal with this but on a much larger scale everyday, so keeping each bottle tasting the same is a constant labor or love.
What is your vision for Stoke Juice?
Stoke’s mission is to fuel as many peoples fires as possible while reducing waste. For us this means finding uses for the fruit pulp after juicing, so keep an eye out for some more Stoke products made from the pulp coming soon!
Our vision to be a part of each of the communities that we bring our product to. We are so excited to be a part of the amazing food scene in Nelson and at the Kootenay Co-op.
Why is local food and/or local purchasing important to you?
Purchasing as locally as possible is one of the core missions of our company! It’s so important for us to be connected with the people that grow our food. We like knowing where it is harvested and get the opportunity to be knowledgeable about their growing practices.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members, what would it be?
We are so excited to be a part of this amazing community that loves food! Thanks for giving us such a warm welcome to Nelson, we can’t wait to do some more sampling and meet more of you all!
