We want to let our member-owners know about two changes in the way you can take advantage of volume discounts.
1. The $300 shop benefit will be updated to a $500 shop on April 18, 2018
The Kootenay Co-op launched the “$300 shop” in 1992 to encourage our member-owners to do more of their shopping at our Co-op. The promotion allowed anyone who spent $300 or more in one transaction to get 10% back. After 25 years, our Board of Directors has decided to update this benefit.
As of April 18, 2018, the threshold for the 10% discount will increase from $300 to $500. Special Purchase Orders will not count toward the total, and the benefit will be suspended during Case Lot Sales. The savings from the increase to the threshold will be passed to all our member-owners through lower prices across the store and improved financial results.
The Kootenay Co-op’s mission is to serve our members and our community and strengthen our local food system by providing the highest quality, local, sustainable, and organic products at reasonable prices in a welcoming environment, with exemplary customer service. The change to the $500 shop program will help us to better carry out our mission of serving you and our community.

2. Special Purchase orders will require 50% deposit
We’re packing our warehouse to the rafters with inventory for everyone. That’s why it’s very important that members pick up their special orders right away. To encourage everyone to get their items as soon as possible, and to encourage people to order things only when they are committed to buying, special purchase orders on grocery items will require a 50% deposit starting April 18. These changes apply to grocery items only. The special order process at Wellness, the Butcher Shop, Produce, and the Delicatessen will not change.
Special orders in case quantities are still eligible for a 10% discount (some exceptions apply).
Thank you for your participation in our independent natural foods cooperative!
