Master Herbalist and Clinical Aromatherapist Colleen Emery is the founder and heart of Emery Herbals Botanical Dispensary, Healing Suites and Teaching Center.
What do you do at Emery Herbals?
I compound herbal formulas, customize medicine for clients and practitioners both regionally as well as distantly all over the globe. I am also an educator providing access to information, programs and workshops that empower. I have a three-part apprentice program, I mentor students both regionally as well as distantly and I teach a weekly children’s herb club for the kids in our community. I have created an intentional offering of shelf ready products that have been honed over a decade of work with clients. Our teas are small batch prepared using consciously sourced botanicals.
How would you describe your company?
Our Mission Statement is: Providing open access to consciously sourced botanicals, professional health services and empowering educational experiences that encourage and cultivate sustained wellness.
How long have you been an herbalist?
I have been a practicing herbalist and educator with a compounding business for 15 years.
What motivated you to start?
I went on a magical, transformative trip to the rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island. I had a profound life shift and left retail management to study botany and plant medicine.
What are some of your greatest joys?
Being of service to those who are looking to work on their health and become their full potential of wellness.
What are some of your greatest challenges?
Witnessing depreciating health circumstances with clients, government regulation compromising the working functionality of our industry.
What is your vision for your company?
To be of service for our communities’ health and wellness by providing access to consciously sourced plant medicines, health services and educational experiences that motivate and transform.
Why is local food and/or local purchasing important to you?
It is an essential component, having a relationship with my natural world is the foundation to the work I do. By accessing the medicine that grows around me, either through ethical wild-harvest or local farmers, allows me to be deeply connected to what the natural world is providing for our needs. What grows around us heals us.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
I offer the Co-op members a message of gratitude for considering our teas for part of their daily nourishment and ritual.
