Giving Tree Annual Fundraising Campaign
Every year, the Kootenay Co-op sells holiday cards in support of local non-profit organizations. This year, Co-op shoppers stepped up and raised $1750 for three local non-profit organizations:
- Nelson Street Outreach
- Friends of Kootenay Lake
- West Kootenay Community Teeth Clinic
Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society received $580 to put toward whatever great project they decide. This organization is an inclusive stewardship organization dedicated to sustaining a healthy Kootenay Lake for future generations.
Here’s David Reid, Co-op Marketing and Communications Manager, handing the cheque to Avery and Nina who are BIG friends of the lake!
The Nelson Street Outreach team (Nelson Community Services) raised $800 to support their programming with the homeless population of our community. This program offers immediate and caring response to Nelson’s ‘street culture’ population – those struggling with homelessness, poverty, mental health, and/or addiction.
Here’s Alyssa Nebel, Co-op Outreach Coordinator, with the no-strings-attached cheque for the Street Outreach Team, Ryall, Alyx (volunteer), Cobalt (faithful doggo), and Jeremy.
The West Kootenay Community TEETH Clinic Society received $470 to put in their reserve fund. This means that low-income folks in need can receive the dental care they need, even if they don’t have the minimum payment usually required.
Here’s Alyssa again, passing the Kootenay Co-op cheque over to Barry Nelson, a representative of the TEETH Clinic.
Co-op shoppers also had the opportunity to buy two zero-margin products, a cookbook from Kootenay Kids, and the annual SEEDS calendar. That means the Co-op gave all the money from the sale of these products to the organizations that produced them!
Thank you for helping us support local non-profit efforts! We couldn’t do it without you!
